Three Possibilities and Solutions for Invisible Auto Paint Protection Film Tear Film and Glue
After removing the invisible auto paint protection film, it is found that there is a glue layer on the paint surface of the vehicle. It is either still sticky to a certain extent or has hardened. If this happens, it means that the invisible auto paint protection film has glue left.
So, why does the invisible auto paint protection film leave glue? Is there any auto paint protection film in the market that does not lose glue? What should I do after leaving the glue?
Possibility of glue retention 1: Improper tearing off the film
If there is slight glue left on the part of the car paint or at the corners after the auto paint protection film is torn off, then don’t worry about this situation. Basically, it is due to the technician’s tearing method and angle that cause friction between the auto paint protection film adhesive layer and the paint surface. The glue is only slightly off, and has nothing to do with the quality of the auto paint protection film itself.
In the case of local slight glue retention, just spray the glue remover on a towel and wipe it off effectively. Here is a little tip for technician friends: When removing the film, ensure that the angle between the film and the paint surface is <45°. If necessary, pour some hot water to help soften the adhesive layer, so that the film will be removed more smoothly and it is not easy to leave glue.
Possibility of glue retention 2: caused by improper construction
If the wrong solvent is used when applying the film, it will cause a chemical reaction between the solvent and the glue, and it will also cause partial or overall glue retention. Or if the paint surface is not cleaned before the film is applied, residues such as resin or air-conditioning water will chemically react with the glue, which will also cause glue retention.
If there is only a slight glue left locally, the treatment method is the same as above. If there is a large area of glue remaining, the treatment method is detailed below.
Possibility of glue retention 3: Inferior glue causes
If low-quality glue is used when coating the auto paint protection film, or special glue not developed for the specific purpose of the auto paint protection film, the adhesive layer is prone to oxidation and deterioration due to poor stability and weather resistance, and the shape and viscosity of the glue are likely to develop over time. Phenomena such as the hardening of the adhesive layer and the fusion with the car paint will eventually lead to the serious consequences of tearing the film and leaving glue, and even damaging the car paint.
The special glue for auto paint protection film has the advantages of low initial viscosity and no marks left during construction adjustments, and after the film is completely evaporated, it will maintain moderate viscosity, so that the car paint and the auto paint protection film can be closely bonded. Therefore, coating factories should choose high-quality glue that has been proven in the market and developed for TPU auto paint protection film, so as to reduce or avoid the possibility of tearing the film and leaving glue.
Glue retention possibility 4: Improper glue ratio
If the glue used by the manufacturer is a market-proven brand and model, but there is still a large area of glue remaining, the reason may be that the glue ratio of the coating factory is improper.
When the adhesive force of the glue and the base material is less than that of the glue and the paint surface as a whole, it will also cause a large area of glue to remain.
How to deal with large areas of glue
It has been found through practice that: watering hot water in the offset printing area to soften the residual glue, then spraying the solar film glue remover or asphalt cleaning agent, and applying flour and wearing gloves to carefully and slowly rub it off is a relatively safe way to remove it. It can be polished and restored. At present, there are special glue removers for paint masks on the market, but according to the actual operation, it is found that the glue removers with mild formulas are less effective, and the ones with obvious effects are too corrosive, which may cause damage to the original paint surface.
Note: The root cause of the glue remaining on the car is the glue layer, which has nothing to do with the base material. The essential reason why car coverings made of PVC and TPH are prone to large areas of glue is that low-quality substrates are usually used together with low-quality glue, and the weather resistance of both the substrate and the glue is poor. It is easy to separate from the glue layer, resulting in a large area of degumming.
